The Cathedral was built by the seasons, starting in 1575, with the trace and MONTEA architect Francisco Becerra. By 1640 the building is lifted up walls and unfortunately means abandoned. Don Fray de Palafox y Mendoza embodies the April 18, 1649. The work continued for the remainder of the seventeenth and eighteenth in 1678 is given in order to the north tower and the south tower in 1768. The choir was conducted between 1712 and 1722. The two organs were donated by Charles V. The cypress was drafted the architect Joseph Manzo in 1797 and 1819. The altarpiece of the Kings was built from 1646-1652 and the work was made by sculptor Lucas Mendez.

Description
On the outside of the Cathedral, stands the front facade to it is composed of the two towers that are considered the highest in Mexico. Only the North Tower is hosting the belfry bell there is Mary. Between the columns of the facade are the niches with sculptures and medallions roleados of Charles V, Philip II, Philip III and Philip IV. The Baroque ornamentation is accentuated in the spandrels, friezes and pedestals. The choir from the nave you can see the beautiful carving marquetry chairs made by Master Pedro Muñoz. The Cypress, its plant is circular and is of Corinthian style, finished in marble of different shades, it is below the pantheon of bishops. Altarpiece of the kings, is in the chapel of the same name and its design is due to Juan Martinez, also in composition are niches with statues of Kings and oil paintings on canvas.
